Basket Strainer

 

A Strainer, also known as a filter, is an equipment or device used to strain or filter unwanted components from a fluid passing through a pipeline. It allow a wide range of fluids to be filter & strained and catch solid components of almost any size depending on mesh size.  They are all having conveniently easy-to-clean removable and cleanable internals catch baskets of perforated SS sheets. Depending on the applications, basket strainer components can be manufactured in single cylinder, double cylinder, multi-cylinder styles. They are designed with filter housing, perforated SS cage element supported from inside and a positive sealing arrangement to prevent any bypass.

Function

When the filter is operating, the water or fluid to be filtered enters the strainer basket through the inlet, flows through the filter element and enters the desired outler chamber. Particles and solid impurities or components present in the water or fluid are catched inside the basket filter screen cage. With this continuous flow, more and more particles are caught and filtering capacity becomes low gradually. However, the caught impurities also clogs constantly and the filter hole would get narrower and smaller, resulting in a pressure differential between inlet and outlet flows. As the difference between inlet and outlet pressure exceeds the pre set fixed value, the straining cage is then cleaned either manually or by automated methods so that the filtering system functions normally. The filter consists of a casing normally perforated SS sheets. During operation, the liquid reaches the lower chamber of the body through the inlet and the inside chamber of the straining element through the holes opening. It is an economic and cost effective, and easy-to-use equipment or device.

Operation

For applications where high flow and pressure are important, the basket type is perfect. They are easy to maintain or clean where the cover is removed which allows easy access to the straining element removal. This allows them to be easily cleaned, replaced, washed, or repaired. Double layer of basket type are often used and they are called double chamber strainers. These are very convenient and easy because they allow the process to run without any effect while the filter is cleaned so that there is no need to interrupt the output flow. This makes it quite easy to deal with.

Y Type Strainer

Y Types are usually cast body  with a cast steel or iron body is used with higher grade internal materials like Stainless steels, etc. These  are comparatively heavier than T Type baskets and are available upto 8 inches and 10 inches. These Y type in casting are preferred for high flow and pressure. Y type strainers are also manufatured by fabricated pipe in Y shape. depending upon the application and selection by engineering team of end user. Y type strainers can accomodate high flow rate and are available in large sizes as well. 

T Type or Basket Strainer

T Types, often called as basket strainers are usually fabricated by pipes in a T shapte. Usually, casbon steel or stainless steel pipes are used with higher grade internal materials like Stainless steels, etc. These are comparatively lighter than Y Type basket of same size and are available upto 20 inches and more larger sizes. These T type basket strainers are preferred for high flow and low pressure applications, typically water. Depending upon the application and selection by engineering team of end user. T type can accomodate high flow rate and are available in very large sizes.

Applications

Domestic applications like water treatment and distribution systems, Industrial applications such as oil and gas, petrochemicals, chemical, power generation, mining and industries use these. Simple construction and easy maintenance makes these useful for common applications. Sometimes, these are also used in fire fighting applications with some minor chages in design standard and material specifications.
